First Knowledge Prepared Environment
Implementation
How the curriculum works in the classroom, day to day.
Teaching Manuals
Every presentation specifies the age, the exact language the teacher uses, the material, the control of error, the direct and indirect aims, and a numbered sequence of steps. Variations and extensions give the same material several levels over time.
Card Materials
The child's own working materials, grouped by what they develop: visual perception, concept development, sounds and letters, the sequenced reading series, vocabulary, and grammar.
Classic Montessori Materials
Sandpaper Letters, the Moveable Alphabet, Metal Insets and chalkboards sit alongside the card materials on open shelves within the child's reach.
How a Lesson Works
A presentation is given individually or to a small group at the point of the child's readiness. After that the child takes the material down, works with it as long as they choose, and returns it to the shelf.
